We began as nomadic teachers on motorcycles, traveling from school to school—from Sabang to Merauke. Along the way, we met passionate teachers and enthusiastic students across Indonesia. Our network grew, but saying goodbye was never easy. So, we dreamed of creating a space where all the inspiring people we met could gather again, over a cup of coffee. That’s why we parked our motorcycles in Yogyakarta. One chapter ends, and a new journey begins.

Our Mission

Like the mangrove tree, a natural protector and connector, The Mangrove supports growth where it’s needed most. We partner with institutions to deliver high-impact professional development experiences for current and future professionals. Our programs focus on recharging, upskilling, and building meaningful connections, fostering growth rooted in purpose, kindness, and intention.

We Believe in True Collaboration

That’s why we deliver programs in partnership with institutions, not directly to individuals. For example, when we run programs for students, we also work closely with their teachers and lecturers, ensuring we build one continuous path forward, together.

Our Programs

We offer a range of innovative programs designed to meet diverse professional development needs—across sectors, from education to corporate leadership. The programs listed below are just examples. We regularly customize and co-design additional offerings in close collaboration with our partner institutions.

Professional Development Workshops and Conferences

We love traveling to hosting institutions across Indonesia and beyond to lead one-time, high-energy workshops that spark connection, creativity, and growth. Each event is a chance to collaborate, learn, and build something meaningful together—and no two are ever the same.

What sets the Mangrove experience apart:
  • Fully customizable - Tailored to the needs, goals, and context of each group.

  • Hands-on and interactive - Learning through doing, not just listening

  • Rooted in purpose - Every session connects to participants’ personal why

  • Practical and applicable - Skills you can use immediately in real-world settings

  • Creative and energizing formats - From storytelling to live music with our own band

  • Ongoing support - Continued growth through the Mangrove

Mangrove TESOL Certificate Program

The Mangrove TESOL Certificate equips current and aspiring educators with essential theory and practical, innovative teaching strategies to build confidence, resilience, and effectiveness in the classroom.

Participants engage in hands-on practice, reflective learning, and microteaching within a supportive, collaborative environment. Unlike traditional professional development, this immersive experience inspires and empowers educators at every stage of their journey.

Key Focus Areas:

  • TESOL theoretical foundations

  • Teaching the four skills: speaking, writing, listening, and reading

  • Practical activity ideas adaptable to any context

  • Strengthening teaching through microteaching and feedback

  • Building a community of practice to support ongoing growth

Mangrove English for Educators: Teaching with Impact

While many educators are trained in communicative methods, limited confidence in using English often leads to teacher-centered instruction. Based on ELTeach (National Geographic Learning), this program supports teachers in building classroom-specific English and communication skills.

Key Focus Areas:

  •  Using classroom English with confidence

  • Delivering clear, effective instructions (e.g., “Please make groups of four.”)

  • Facilitating interactive discussions

  • Implementing student-centered lessons

  • Transitioning away from teacher-centered approaches

Mangrove Ready2Teach: Bridging Theory & Practice

Many pre-service teachers understand methodology but lack classroom confidence. Some leave the profession before they start; others feel overwhelmed once they begin. This one-week intensive teacher training bridges the gap by providing hands-on experience, practical tools, and peer collaboration to build real-world readiness.

Key Focus Areas:

  •  Foundations of effective lesson planning

  •  Building classroom confidence

  • Strengthening instruction across language domains

  • Enhancing teaching through microteaching and feedback

  • Developing classroom management techniques

  • Fostering lifelong learning and professional growth

Mangrove Executive English & Leadership Program

While technology has made language learning more accessible than ever, some of the most essential skills—like human connection, leadership, and empathy—still require intentional, guided development.

Global Voices is our General English program for adults and young adults. It goes beyond grammar and vocabulary to develop the real-world skills that today’s global citizens need: communication, collaboration, leadership, social-emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural awareness.

Powered by National Geographic Learning’s Voices, a seven-level integrated skills curriculum, learners build fluency while discovering their unique voice and purpose as English speakers. Every lesson is designed not just to teach English, but to help participants connect more deeply with themselves, their communities, and the world.

Key Focus Areas:

  • English fluency across all four language skills

  • Critical thinking and communication in real-life contexts

  • Leadership and collaboration in diverse settings

  • Social-emotional learning and self-expression

  • Cross-cultural understanding and global awareness

  • Purpose-driven learning that connects language to personal goals
